A small village with a long history nestled between the lush tropical greenery and residential high-rises seemingly resisting the change of time, striving to live and preserve its cultural traditions. My project is an invitation to stroll through the narrow lanes of Hong Kong on a discovery of its rich history on the verge of extinction endangered by modernisation. It is a portrayal of residents living in the middle of nature, going about their seasonal activities, maintaining their gardens and cultural heritage. The series of photographs depicts houses covered in nature, bits and pieces of ordinary human lives and interactions. In the photographs local residents are hardly visible as if almost immersed in their natural surroundings. The photographs reflect on the present as well as the past and fears for the future, on a stark clash of cultures, the urban infused with the rural village evoking memories of my own past and heritage. These are my reflections as an outsider, a foreigner to this nature and language for which a distance remains between residents and myself.
